Title: The Role of Colloquial Arabic in Modern Standard Arabic Instruction

The talk will present an analysis of data collected to study students' attitudes toward the problems of learning Arabic as a foreign language. The study sought to assess (a) how students imagine Arabic to be used in the real world, and (b) for what purposes and why students prefer either colloquial Arabic or MSA in class.
