Title: Experiencing Chinese Culture Through Community Engagement

Description: This presentation shares the design and implementation of a Chinese culture class that integrates experiential learning and community engagement. Specifically, the course provides an immersive experience in various aspects of Chinese culture, suitable for students of all Chinese language backgrounds. Through structured, regular, and frequent community engagement, students will participate in hands-on activities such as playing Chinese instruments, traditional board games, calligraphy, art, and cooking. These activities allow students to authentically engage with and experience Chinese culture. The community engagement component extends learning beyond the classroom to the local community, including local schools and families. By facilitating shared cultural experiences and knowledge, students will participate in cultural festivals and events at the university and local K-12 schools, and engage with local Chinese families. This approach fosters a deeper understanding and appreciation of Chinese culture through active participation and community involvement.
