IWL Round Table II

Presenter: Sarah Annunziato (Italian), Anna Borovskaya-Ellis (Russian), Bilal Humeidan (Arabic), Anne Rotich (Swahili)

Title: "Peer Tutoring for Language Programs: Creation, Management, and Effectiveness"

Description: Peer tutoring programs play an increasingly important role in supporting student success, building community, and strengthening proficiency outcomes in language programs. In this roundtable, faculty from Italian, Russian, Arabic, and Swahili will share how they have designed, implemented, and sustained peer tutoring initiatives within their respective programs.

Each presenter will briefly discuss the structure of their program, including tutor recruitment and training, session formats, integration with course objectives, and assessment practices. Presenters will also reflect on successes, challenges, and lessons learned — from managing logistics and funding to fostering student accountability and measuring effectiveness.

The session will conclude with an open discussion, providing space for questions, idea exchange, and collaborative problem-solving. This roundtable is intended for language instructors and program directors interested in creating, refining, or expanding peer tutoring support in their own contexts.
