IWL ChatGPT-4 Workshop (Spring 2024) — Embracing AI in Language Teaching and Learning

The advent of ChatGPT-4 has ignited a mix of excitement and skepticism within the educational community. While AI’s application in language education is a new frontier, it is uncertain how to harness its potential in L2 pedagogy. Our workshop serves as an essential first step toward that direction, ensuring we leverage AI responsibly and effectively to enhance our teaching and enrich our students’ learning experiences.

Workshop Objectives

Whether you have dabbled in AI or you are new to it, the purpose of this workshop is to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application. In this collaborative hands-on workshop World Language faculty will come together to find inspiration and envision the integration of AI in the classroom as a potential avenue for the creation of additional educational content, lesson planning, syllabus and assessment generator, student feedback, etc. More importantly, we will explore how to:

  • Navigate and interact with ChatGPT-4, even with no prior experience.
  • Assess the strengths and limitations of ChatGPT-4 in facilitating language learning.
  • Explore the potential creation of an AI-driven virtual teaching tutor that could assist students in their language learning.
  • Investigate other AI-powered applications such as Magic School and Formative.

Join the workshop

The availability of ChatGPT-4 licenses is limited and they will be given to interested WL faculty on a first-come, first-served basis.
