Theme: Developing and Aligning Language Program Objectives Within and Across Levels

Do students in your language program have a consistent experience of meeting shared learning objectives across all levels of study? Is the language curriculum aligned so that all instructors have a strong sense of how their course fits into the whole?

This workshop offers you an opportunity to take a step back from your day-to-day work as language teachers and think creatively and systematically about the bigger picture of your language program. We will begin by inviting you to dream big about your goals for students’ learning.  We will then provide a framework for translating your aspirations into measurable learning objectives at a program and/or course level.  Throughout the session, you will work collaboratively with colleagues within and across programs on crafting strong “can do statements” that compellingly and clearly communicate your dreams for students while providing the foundation for assessing the success of your program. 

To get the most out of the workshop, we highly recommend that you attend as a team (consisting of the program director and multiple instructors across levels) so that you can begin the crucial work of aligning objectives across different levels and mapping your language program curriculum.

Parking information:

The Retreat does not offer parking reimbursement or group parking permits.

The Graduate Charlottesville Hotel offers valet parking ($10 per day per car) and has very limited parking spots available. Therefore, we encourage you to park at your regular work spot and either walk or take a bus to the hotel (located at the corner). Meter parking (limited spots) is available on University Avenue right outside of the hotel. Two parking garages are within the vicinity of the hotel: 14th St./Wertland St. parking garage and 11th St. parking garage (UVA hospital). Participants are responsible for their parking expenses should they choose to park at any of the options above.
