The Institute of World Languages has two newly established faculty awards for 2015. We invite faculty to submit proposals for our IWL Faculty Development Grant and our IWL Faculty Research Grant. With these grants, we hope to stimulate language research, teaching, and learning across the University of Virginia.
The IWL Faculty Research Grant will support scholarship and research to improve foreign/second language instruction and second language acquisition. The research project may fall into the categories of action research or empirical research. Action Research is any systematic inquiry conducted by teachers in their own classroom environment to gather information about how they teach and how well their students learn. For more information about this grant, or to apply, please see our Call for Proposals.
The IWL Faculty Development grants support faculty development in areas of world language instruction or second language acquisition, in any language. Possible projects include: certification in language assessment (such as OPI training); travel to conferences to present a paper or to participate in workshops; or creation of course materials that are pedagogically and technologically innovative.
