Bios:
Dr. Ziyi Geng is Lecturer of Chinese at the University of Virginia. Her pedagogical interests include instructional technology and task-based language teaching. She taught at the 2019 UVA STARTALK Chinese Teacher Academy and was recognized as the most excellent Teaching Fellow for teaching Mandarin Chinese online in the program. In response to high demand for online teaching due to the COVID-19 pandemic, she is serving as one of the presenters for the UVA STARTALK online training series, contributing to the Chinese language teaching community in the US in March 2020.

Dr. Yan Gao has served as a technology coordinator and co-trainer for UVA STARTALK Chinese Teacher/Student Academy since 2017 and is the recipient of ACTFL Distant Learning Award for K-12 education in 2017. She teaches Mandarin Chinese at Henrico County Public Schools (HCPS) and Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU).  She has been making the Chinese language curriculum“real” by introducing telecollaboration, student blogging, curation project, and other high-impact learning activities since 2011 in the online environment. She also served on the Board of Director at the Chinese Language Teachers Association of Virginia (CLTA-VA), and organized workshops on blended learning aided by technology.
