Title: Online synchronous training for empowering CFL teachers with ICT capacity: Theoretical Foundations and Practice
Abstract:
In response to the need to cultivate pre-service Chinese as a foreign language (CFL) teachers’ information and communication technology (ICT) competency in online synchronous environments, a well-developed training model rooted in pedagogical foundations is necessary. This talk, therefore, will first introduce the theoretical foundations of online synchronous CFL teacher training. Based on the theoretical foundations, a three-stage cyclical model—cooperation-based cognition, action, and reflection (CoCAR) was developed. The model has been implemented in different training programs to prepare pre-service CFL teachers for online synchronous teaching since 2009. Next, some practical examples of applying CoCAR to CFL teacher training will be illustrated. Finally, synthesized suggestions for future applications and research will be provided.
