Language Tutoring

ASL Peer Tutoring Program

The ASL Program has a Volunteer Peer Tutoring Program featuring several upper-level students who provide review and practice generally for several hours every day of the week in the Language Commons Alcove.  The Tutor Schedule is usually posted outside the ASL Program Office in New Cabell, room 255.

The DEAFS (Deafness Education & Awareness For Students) Student Organization/CIO, established by a Deaf student at UVA over 20 years ago, provides ASL and Deaf community activities for its members, including Movie and Game Nights, TOTOL, field trips to Gallaudet, carpooling to Deaf events, and other activities.  Contact information for the DEAFS Officers and DEAFS events are posted outside the ASL Program Office in New Cabell, room 255.

The UVA Chinese Tutoring Program provides a unique opportunity for students to engage in authentic cultural exchanges and language learning by connecting with pre-service teachers in China. UVA students participate in meaningful conversations and reflective learning experiences, gaining a deep understanding of Chinese culture. Simultaneously, pre-service teachers in China benefit from this invaluable teaching practicum and cultural exchange. Our partner organization, PALMChinese, helps us recruit over 100 tutors each semester, further strengthening the program. This mutually beneficial collaboration enhances cultural understanding, intercultural communication skills, and global partnerships, creating a win-win situation for all participants. For questions or suggestions, please contact Wen Guo at emg7ge@virginia.edu.

On the "Books" tab, students can reserve books they want to read during the session, and the availability of books is transparent to all students.
