Title: Creating a Heritage Learners Language Class: Approaches and Considerations

This presentation will share practical and theoretical questions that address specific pedagogical needs of heritage students in language classrooms, concretely in the creation of a new class, SPAN 3015 - Language, Culture and Composition for Heritage Learners of Spanish. As it has been designed, the course will provide a bridge to academic and professional registers and uses of Spanish for students whose language acquisition has been principally experiential. Many of the lessons learned will be applicable to heritage languages in the US other than Spanish.
