Title: When Film Travels: Three Principles for Understanding the Globe

Description: When we travel, we often think of exotic places and cultures. We imagine encounters, new ways of looking at things, and new horizons. Yet, travel is also a rite of passage that is full of anxiety, difficulties, and potential dangers. This panel engages three types of filmic encounters – aesthetic, commercial, and ideological – and explores them in relation to their intrinsic promises and difficulties. Each of the encounters is set in a different nation: Brazil, China, and Mexico.

This event is co-organized by the Institute of World Languages and the Department of Media Studies. All events are held from 6:30pm - 9:00pm in Minor Hall 125.
