Rethinking the curriculum of the 3rd year language course
Tomoko Marshall, Japanese, DEALLC
This session addresses the question of what it means to be a successful independent learner in a foreign language classroom. Are we preparing our students effectively for global content in the 21st century? We will look at the 3rd-year Japanese course as an example of how the curriculum was modified with new course objectives and the assessment criteria. Pros and cons of experiments and students’ feedback will be shared. We will also discuss in small groups what our expectations are for the 3rd-year language students at their exit level and how they might be different or similar in one language program to another.
